11ª Romaria dos Martires da Floresta

Ponta-Cabeça, in collaboration with Instituto Zé Cláudio e Maria, Galgael and Not1More, hosted a special evening with Brazilian environmental defender Claudelice Santos to mark the 11th Romaria of the Martyrs of the Forest—an event dedicated to honoring those who gave their lives protecting Brazil’s forests.

This gathering took place at Galgael (15 Fairley St, Glasgow, G51 2SN) on Thursday, 4th June, at 6pm. It was an open, drop-in event that welcomed all members of the community.

The night served as a space for reflection and connection, featuring memorial banner making in honor of lost land defenders and a keynote talk from Claudelice Santos, who shared the history of the Romaria and insights into the Instituto Zé Cláudio e Maria. The event also included a music and story circle that blended Brazilian and Scottish traditional cultures, as well as an opportunity for participants to gather messages of solidarity to be sent to those attending the Romaria in Brazil. The evening concluded with Galgael’s regular Thursday night community meal.

This event was made possible with support from Galgael Trust, Heriot-Watt University, and Ponta-Cabeça.
