Mainumy beija flô de Mãe Preta

Mainumy Beija Flô de Mãe Preta, a Paraense artist and cultural practitioner, to Glasgow for Corpo que Canta, a two-day exploration of ritual, ancestry, and Afro-Indigenous musicality on 28 and 29 August. Venue and ticket details will be confirmed soon.

Beijaflor’s practice is deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural traditions of the Amazon and Pará, guided by the ancestral lineage of the Akilombamento Morada de Abya Ayla (AMAY) and inspired by the teachings of the Yagba Ancestral Mãe Preta. Her work fuses Afro-Brazilian musicality, Indigenous knowledge, and ritual, creating spaces where the body, song, and movement interconnect with memory, spirituality, and collective experience.

The Corpo que Canta workshop invites participants to engage with the body as a vessel for ancestral expression, exploring ritual practices, musical improvisation, and embodied storytelling. Through this immersive approach, Mainumy offers a journey into the intersections of sound, movement, and spiritual knowledge, highlighting the resilience and creativity of Afro-Indigenous traditions.

Mainumy's practice is inseparable from the wider work of AMAY, a bio-cultural collective committed to defending ancestral territories, nurturing community-led education, and fostering intergenerational cultural transmission. AMAY’s projects address environmental stewardship, women’s empowerment, and the preservation of Afro-Indigenous knowledge systems, offering a holistic approach to culture, spirituality, and social transformation.

This event provides a rare opportunity to connect with living ancestral practices, engage in embodied cultural learning, and experience the profound power of music, movement, and ritual as a collective and transformative act.

Stay tuned for updates on venue and ticketing, and join us to celebrate the voices, rhythms, and ancestral wisdom that Beijaflor brings to life.
