Join us for a percussion workshop with Mestre Flávio, founder of Grupo Celeiro de Bamba de Capoeira. Taking place on 17th November from 3 PM to 6 PM at Music Broth in Govanhill, Glasgow, this workshop will be a deep dive into the world of traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms like São Bento Grande, Inuma, Ijexá, Nagô, and Samba de Caboclo.
Whether you’re a seasoned percussionist or just curious, this workshop is a hands-on with instruments like the pandeiro, agogô, atabaques, and berimbau. Mestre Flávio will guide us through the basics of these powerful rhythms, making it a fun and engaging experience for everyone.
Flavio Luiz da Silva, known as Mestre Flávio Caranguejo, hails from São Paulo, Brazil, and was immersed in the world of capoeira and percussion from a young age. His journey in capoeira began in the early 1980s at Fonte do Gavatá under Mestre Kenura, and he later joined Grupo Senzala under Mestre Peixinho.
With decades of experience, Mestre Flávio has not only mastered the art of capoeira but has also become a revered figure in the world of Brazilian percussion. He has traveled extensively, representing Brazilian culture in countries such as the USA, Canada, India, and Finland, sharing his deep knowledge of traditional rhythms and their cultural significance.
