Rhythm & Resistance at Anderston Green Space

The concrete grids of the city persist in their rigid, unimaginative geometry, quietly slicing the land into manageable, bureaucratic parcels. Yet, there remain fractures in the pavement. On 31 July at 4pm, we gather at the Anderston Green Space Orchard.

We have been invited by Plant Up—an initiative that methodically dismantles the sterility of overlooked urban terrain, transforming it into biodiverse, living landscapes shaped by the hands of the community. They operate with the radical understanding that public green space should be generous, resilient, and free, countering the aggressive enclosure of the modern city. In collaboration with their free community BBQ and celebration, Christiano will be leading a jam using Brazilian instruments, no experience needed.

Here, amidst the soil and the sprawling vines, we bring the Rhythm and Resistance of Brazilian traditional culture. We come to share songs and stories that predate the tarmac.

The berimbau hums with the memory and the call of São Bento Grande. The roda is our shared fire—each verse a memory, each refrain a quiet insistence of our continued presence. Come to the orchard. Step into the circle, share the food.
