This initiative connects Brazil, Guinea-Bissau and the UK through Capoeira – an expression of resistance, street wisdom and collective care. With workshops led by Russo De Caxias (O Zelador), we will strengthen ties between communities, raise funds, and share the embodied knowledge of mandinga – the cleverness, trickery and ancestral intuition that lives within the art of Capoeira.
Why the Simbor School?
Simbor lies in a region that is home to the Mandinka people—an ethnic group that was heavily enslaved during the transatlantic slave trade, particularly in Brazil. In Brazil, the legacy of the Mandinka lives on through the word mandinga—a symbol of street wisdom, cunning, and resilience. This cultural force shaped generations of capoeiristas, teaching them not only how to fight, but how to survive.
In Simbor today, the need is tangible. The community’s primary school is in urgent need of repair. The building is in poor condition, restricting children’s access to basic education. All proceeds from the workshops will go directly towards rebuilding and improving the school—creating a safer, more welcoming space for learning and growth.

💸 Contributions
Russo de Caxias and the organisers are donating their time for these workshops so that the fees can go directly to charity. 100% of the funds raised above the costs of running the event will go to the school repair project in Simbor. Your participation is a way to support access to education while connecting through Capoeira.
To help us reach this goal, we suggest the following donation rates:
• £40 - £70 (suggested donation) full day of activities.
These contributions include access to all workshops and rodas.
Spaces are limited, so we kindly encourage early booking.
If you’d like to attend but are facing financial difficulties, please reach out – we’ll do our best to find a way for you to join.
